Neither Cold Nor Hot

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then, because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Revelation 3:15-16

This is directed to people like me who profess to be Christians, but go through life muddling our way through, not letting others really know we are Christian, because we don't want to be judged, but are judging others.

This is for people like me who profess to be Christians, but go through life not standing up for the elderly, the homeless, and needy, because we don't want to be judged, but are judging others.

This is for people like me who profess to be Christians, but go through life playing it safe, not taking risks that need to be taken to defend the rights of the abused, the oppressed, and those who are neglected, because we don't want to be judged, but are judging others.

This is for people like me who need to stop being luke-warm by being in the middle of the road and taking a stand for those who need our assistance on Christ's behalf.I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then, because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Revelation 3:15-16

The Tree of Life

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Revelation 2:7

I remember learning in history about Ponce de Leon looking for the Fountain of Youth in Florida. I've grown up with advertisements about elixirs and potions and special creams and formulas to make us look years younger, but what does that say about our society?

Does that say that we are so caught up in youthfulness that we disregard the elderly, because we are afraid it may rub off and we might become decrepit some day? Do we pass this same message on to our children and grandchildren? Have our parents had this same media bombardment all of their lives and feel useless when they are elderly?

Rather than worrying about my human body now, I would much rather develop my relationship with Christ so that I might partake of the tree of life and live with Him in Paradise. That's what I want for my dad, and children, and my grandchildren.

Since death is the eventual outcome, it gives me lots of time to think, as my dad's caregiver, about what is really important! He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Then, We Got the Call...

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:13

My husband and I had gone to a local children's nature museum with the grandkids and their parents while my son stayed and visited with my dad. After the museum we went to a cafe that we like that's not too far from our home.

Then, we got the call.... My dad was talking jibberish (incoherent speech) and my grown son didn't know what to do. I immediately came home. At first, my dad seemed like he was somewhat better, but then he was saying things that didn't make any sense again.  I sent a text to his nurse, and I decided that I should get him to the hospital to make sure that he wasn't having a stroke.

They did all kinds of tests and while we were waiting for the results, I realized that it's all in God's hands. Fortunately, my dad had told me that he believed that Jesus was his Savior, so I felt comfortable that he'd go to heaven should God decide it was my dad's time to join him.

As it turns out, he wasn't having a stroke and the jibberish was related to his overall health issues aggravated because his body was compromised due to being dehydrated. I feel blessed to have my dad with us for longer, but it is reassuring that whenever God calls my dad, I can take solace in him having eternal life with Christ. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:13

The Day that Sent Me in a Tailspin

There is no fear in love: but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love Him [Christ], because He first loved us. 1 John 18-19

My dad had lost lots of weight over the last few years prior to moving here. He used to be considered a stalky man at one time. Now, he was so thin that the slightest breeze could knock him off balance...and that's no joke!

He weighed 149 when he first moved here over 9 months ago. It was difficult for me when he got down below 140, but this particular day, the home health aide weighed him and he weighed 136! My dad doesn't always feel hungry due to his GERD and we've found that trying to push him to eat more is counterproductive, because he just eats less to let us know who is in control of his eating.

I thought I was handling things alright, but the day I heard 136, was the day that sent me in a tailspin. I was beside myself. I almost started to cry when I picked up my grandson at preschool. I almost started to cry on the way home. I sent a text to my friends, hoping it would help me pull myself together, but I got no inspiring texts back although I continued to look for them periodically.

I was looking to friends for comfort, but I forget my Best Friend of All, Jesus. He's the one I should have turned to for comfort, not my friends. When I was prayerful about this, God provided several things out of the blue that day. One was that I clicked on Christian Caregiving.  I had never clicked on a Caregiver blog before and had just clicked on it as I was creating this blog site. Part of the advice Sharon Vander Waal had for caregivers in her post was be good to yourself.

You don't know how timely that advice was. God provided it for me when I needed to hear it most. 137 pounds didn't bother me as much, but 136 seemed like death was imminent. Taking this advice to heart, I decided to go through a condensed version of spelling practice with my first grade grandson and put on holiday videos for both the grandkids and myself.

During the time of the videos, I got a call out of the blue from my dad's VA nurse. During my conversation with her, I asked her about his weight being 136 and asked if I were worrying for nothing. She said that I was worrying for nothing, because low body weights are normal as seniors age. She said that I shouldn't worry about things, but just enjoy the time we have together. Isn't it amazing that God provided both of these to console me when I was beside myself. I turned to others, to no avail, but when I turned to Christ for comfort, He was there providing the right comfort and perspective I needed to get through that really difficult day. There is no fear in love: but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love Him [Christ], because He first loved us. 1 John 18-19
