It Seemed Like Forever in Getting the U.T.I. Results Back

Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold; For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her. Proverbs 8:10-11

I called every day or two to see how Dad was doing and if they had gotten the results back from the Urinary Analysis, so he could be put on antibiotics. It seemed that every time I called, they thought the results would be back soon. I hated waiting, because my dad gets disoriented every time he has Urinary Tract Infections.

In my mind, it would seem like it's difficult for my dad when he's been disoriented for several days. I know I never liked feeling that way and figured he wouldn't, either. It seemed like it took them forever in getting the U.T.I. results back, but they finally did, although it probably wasn't as long as it seemed.

I also asked the nurse to make sure Dad was prescribed a more powerful Probiotic to take with his antibiotics. One time before he went to the Veteran's Home, his body reacted to the antibiotics and he got C. difficile, known as C. diff. It was absolutely terrible. It's where they have lots of diarrhea. Dad was on quarantine for three months, because it was highly contagious. The grandkids couldn't go see him and I needed to wear gloves and use antibacterial wipes lots. I don't want Dad to go through that again.

Dad's Got a U.T.I.

My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you. proverbs 7:1

I got a call last weekend from the nurse at the Veteran's Home where Dad is. She said that she noticed blood in his Depends and thought he had a Urinary Tract Infection. Dad hasn't had any for two or three years and this is the first one he's gotten since he went to live at the Veteran's Home.

I asked her if Dad was disoriented, because that happened every time he would get a U.T.I. in the past. She said that she had noticed he wasn't himself, because he was holding his cup, as if to drink it, and had his two fingers sticking in the cup. I explained that in the past, he used to think he was on the farm, which was something from his childhood. Actually, his being disoriented would be the thing that would tip me off that he had another Urinary Tract Infection.

She told me that after they got the results back from the test on Dad's urine, they would determine which antibiotic to use. I felt better knowing he would get better soon.

Dad Gained a Pound and a half! Yeah!

My son, keep your father's command, And do not forsake the law of your mother. Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck. When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you. Proverbs 6:20-22

I thought about going and asking the charge nurse in Dad's Veteran's Home about how much he weighed. I decided to not do it then. I remembered the last time that I asked early in the visit and found out that he only weighed 132. It was hard for me to keep a happy face through the rest of the visit, although I tried.

It was so upsetting that the following week, I didn't even ask what Dad's weight was. This time, I knew his weight was even less, because I had called during the weekend and found out that Dad's weight a week ago was 129.8. I decided to wait until after my visit with Dad before asking about his current weight.

I slowly went up to the nurses station and asked the question I dreaded. I was extremely delighted when I found out that Dad had gained a pound and a half! Yeah!

Watch Out for the Slicky Suit Boys!

A worthless person, a wicked man, Walks with a perverse mouth; He winks with his eyes, He shuffles his feet, He points with his fingers; Perversity is in his heart, He devises evil continually, He sows discord. Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; Suddenly he shall be broken without remedy. Proverbs 6:12-15

This passage reminded me of something my dad said to me when my husband and I were preparing to take a trip to South Korea. Several years ago, my husband had won a free ticket there and we our frequent flyer miles to buy a ticket for me.

My dad told us both to watch out for the Slicky Suit Boys! We were confused. He explained how these guys dressed up in nice suits, I think he said pinstriped suits, to confuse you into thinking they are on the up and up, but they try to steal you blind. My dad's warning reminds me of the passage above.

We kept our eyes out for the Slicky Suit Boys and saw nothing of the kind. It's been a long time since Dad was in the Korean War and lots has changed, at least in all the areas where we traveled. Upon writing this, I looked up Slicky Suit Boys on Google and found that the common term back then is the Slicky Boys. My dad must have encountered some wearing suits, thus his warning. Fortunately for us, Christ warns us to not keep company with those who do similarly.
