Dad's Stuff

1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

When Dad moved here, he came with so much stuff we didn't know what to do with it all. He had several different sizes of canning pots, mementos from his past, coins, rocks, two recliners, clothes of varying sizes, etc. We decided to rent a storage space for all Dad's things.

We donated one of the recliners, but kept the other recliner for Dad and his mother's clock, so he had something familiar. After having paid for the storage space for a year or so, we realized that we probably had to make some decisions about Dad's Stuff. We divided some of the coins between the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, so they had a memento from their Grandpa or Great-Grandpa. I tried to see if we could keep the canning kettles, but unfortunately they were larger than the space we had available. They had to be donated along with the old black and white T.V. and dehydrator. We donated clothing that he wouldn't be able to wear to a worthy cause.

Although we couldn't keep it all for Dad, we tried to pick the things that might be the most significant to him. He still has his smoking table, although he hasn't smoked for 30+ years, but it was something he's owned ever since I was a baby. He has the special Swiss knife that belonged to my deceased brother. He also has a couple of vials of gold flakes, because one of his hobbies was to pan for gold and he has many fond memories of it.

It's hard to make decisions about what to keep and what to donate, but we tried to be prayerful in making the choices.  1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Since these are examples of how I've applied these Bible verses to my experience, they may not reflect the whole meaning of the verse.
